Description and uses

Berkelium is the 97th element of the periodic table. It was developed in 1949 by Stanley Thompson, Albert Ghiorso, and Glenn Seaborg when they bombarded americium with alpha particles. Its longest living isotope is 247Bk, with a half life of around 1,400 years.
